I started as a Data Science Engineering Intern with Regulatory Administration & Airworthiness at The Boeing Company in May 2023.
Key Responsibilities
Over the summer of 2023 I worked with the Enterprise Certification Processes team in Regulatory Administration & Airworthiness at Boeing Everett. Here, I learned about the certification plans and processes for aircraft across the Boeing enterprise. This taught me how aerospace companies interface with regulatory agencies like the FAA, EASA, and other foreign civil aviation authorities. During my internship, I had the following main responsibilities:
- Contributed to the development of an interactive document organization web tool by gathering and analyzing role-specific data from Boeing documents and assets
- Led the combination of process instruction documents from various business units, resulting in consistency in instruction enterprise-wide
- Supported the Enterprise Certification Processes team by collating and sharing information on status requests and organizing meeting information into shareable documents
Iowa State University Center for Nondestructive Evaluation
I started as an Undergraduate Research Assistant in Vibrothermography with the Center for Nondestructive Evaluation in February of 2022.
Key Responsibilities
Along with my classes, I worked in the vibrothermography lab at the Center for Nondestructive Evaluation. I learned a great deal about different nondestructive evaluation methods and crack formation. In the vibrothermography lab, I have personally had the following responsibilities:
- Assisted in the excitation of aircraft fuselage components
- Performed maintenance on a hydraulic power supply and fatigue machine system used to initiate cracks in superalloys
- Organized the research team to begin determining the crack closure state of a natural crack formed in a jet engine disk
- Used hand-drawn schematic plans to convey ideas about ITAR-controlled subject matter
- Learned the Linux operating system to access an export-controlled server

Skach Manufacturing Company
I started as a Technical Print Drafter with Skach Manufacturing Company in July of 2020.
Key Responsibilities
Skach Manufacturing Company is a manufacturer of cold formed/headed parts, such as rivets. At Skach Manufacturing I have learned a lot about drafting blueprints, manufacturing operations, and regulations. Over the two years I have spent there, I have made blueprints for over 150 parts, quality control documents for over 100 parts, and have provided REACH AND RoHS regulatory information to customers regularly. My responsibilities have included:
- Interpreted outdated blueprints of mechanical parts to draft updated versions using AutoCAD
- Managed the shipping department and closely coordinated with other department leads to facilitate the on-time packaging and shipping of orders
- Provided detailed product information to clients regarding REACH, RoHS, and other regulations
- Completed and submitted the Toxic Release Inventory to the EPA for the years of 2020, 2021, & 2022
- Conducted process capability and gauge repeatability and reproducibility analyses and reports
This position has taught me quality control, drafting, manufacturing, and production engineering skills.
Harger Lightning and Grounding
I started as an Office Intern with Harger Ligthning and Grounding in June 2018.
Key Responsibilities
Harger Lightning and Grounding is a company in Grayslake Illinois that specializes in lightning protection. Their products include exothermic welding apparatuses, grounding products, and lightning protection products. As an intern in their office and production shop for two summers, my responsibilities included:
- Followed a set procedure to create materials for lightning protection training
- Created new marketing mock-ups of welding mechanisms using AutoCAD
- Collaborated with the human resources department to document employee records
At Harger I learned how a successful office runs and how different departments interact. I was able to observe how their engineers solve problems in their day-to-day jobs.
